About Us

About Dr. Doug McMahon Allergy and Astma Specialist

Dr. McMahon grew up in Little Canada, MN with asthma, environmental allergies as well as tree nut allergies. Based on his own symptoms he decided at a young age to pursue a career in Medicine. He went to St. Thomas Academy and then onto Boston College earning a degree in Biology. He then went to Georgetown University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Physiology and Biophysics as well as his Medical Degree while graduating the Senior Class President. He then completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of South Florida, one of the top programs in the country for pediatric allergic and immunological disorders. He finished his formal education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in Pediatric and Adult Allergy and Asthma, the top program in the country for Asthma research. 

 

Dr. McMahon is a Board certified allergy and asthma doctor and is a frequent lecturer at national medical meetings for food allergies and asthma. He's  proud to have served as the director of Outpatient Allergy at the University of Minnesota for 4 years and the president of the Minnesota Allergy Society. He is also the only Allergy trained member of the Twin Cities Children’s Asthma Committee. He is a member of the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, Anaphylaxis and Food Allergy Association of Minnesota, Minnesota Medical Society, and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Given his firsthand experience Dr. McMahon knows what his patients are experiencing, and is excited to be able to relate to his patients while providing the best care. It is his goal to have each of his patients live a ‘normal’ life by working together with an emphasis of treating the person rather than the disorder they may have.

 

Dr. McMahon is very involved in the community currently volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America as well as The Phillips Neighborhood free clinic. He has participated in multiple medical mission trips including South America, Africa and the Philippines.

 

Dr.McMahon has been named a Top Doctor by his peers in MN and in America for the past 7 years.

 

Kari Swanson, NP

Hailing from the midwest, Kari has always loved working with people of all ages helping to improve their quality of life. Much of her health care experience has been on the burn unit at Regions Hospital aiding patients in the long process of healing and returning to their new normal. As an outdoors lover and appreciator of all types of cuisine, she understands how debilitating environmental and food allergies can be. She has spent the majority of her life playing soccer while managing asthma, helping others compete and pursue an active lifestyle is extremely personal to her. She earned her bachelor of arts from St. Olaf College, nursing degree from the University of Minnesota, and a masters in nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. 

 

Kari enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, painting, playing soccer, and exploring all that the area has to offer. 

 

Kari is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She looks forward to being of service to patients in the Maplewood and Blaine locations.

 

 

Elise Abbott, PA-C

Elise grew up in Apple Valley, MN with environmental allergies and asthma. She saw firsthand how much these conditions can impact one's activities of daily life, and how much freedom and peace of mind proper treatment and control can provide. This sparked her interest in the Allergy and Asthma specialty from a young age. She strives to provide patient-centered care to her patients of all ages, and to help prevent these conditions from limiting one's activities.

 

She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness, with an emphasis in Pre-Physician Assistant Studies, at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. She then went on to obtain her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. She is a proud University of Minnesota alumni and loves to watch Gopher football and hockey. You can always find her spending time with her friends, family, or her chocolate lab, Millie. 

 

Elise is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also a member of both the Minnesota and American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is thrilled to be a part of the team at Allergy and Asthma Center of Minnesota and is dedicated to providing optimal care to the members of the Twin Cities community.

 

 

Casey Brock, PA-C

Casey grew up in East Texas where at an early age he loved serving and helping others. With this desire he joined the Air Force for many years at multiple locations across the globe. While in the military, he obtained his bachelor and then Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree through the Interservice Physician Assistant Program, which is accredited through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After finishing his military service he moved to the Duluth area and immediately fell in love with the outdoor life here. This influenced his decision to pursue a career in allergy and asthma as outdoor activities can be so limited by these conditions if not treated.
He has worked in multiple medical settings in the military and civilian sectors with Primary, Emergency, Urgent Care and currently Allergy and Asthma. 

Casey enjoys spending his free time with family. He stays busy with activities in the area including hockey, snowboarding, skiing, hiking and anything to do with music. 

Casey is board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. He is excited to continue serving the Duluth area in the allergy and asthma specialty.

 

 

Alexa Habeth, PA-C

Alexa grew up in the Northeast Metro and as an outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys everything the state of Minnesota has to offer. She has been immersed in healthcare, as an allergy and asthma patient, since she was born. Her experiences have driven her desire to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant and care for patients of all ages. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. She then attended Saint Catherine University in St. Paul where she earned her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. 

 

Alexa is board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also a member of both the Minnesota and American Academy of Physician Assistants. Alexa finds great joy in being able to establish lasting relationships with her patients and deliver thoughtful, expert care. She is delighted to be part of the Allergy and Asthma Center of Minnesota team.  She looks forward to helping every patient enjoy and engage in the activities they so desire here in the wonderful Midwest and beyond.
